This is one of the first recordings when Daniel Anthony, Owner of Mill City Six, actually thought of starting a group of musicians to play the same type of music. "The Sheik of Araby", is a wonderful tune as are the rest of these tunes on this recording. "Cake Walkin' Babies from Home" - another fine tune from the same style of music. Daniel, and Mill City Six play them all.
The most fun and stylistic performances of all times. Keely Smith said it best in an interview with Raymond Arroyo, "Louis Prima had that 'Shuffle-Beat' -- "It's the music that makes it"!

Wow! This is an arrangement of a jazz standard written by Walter Donaldson with lyrics by Gus Kahn. Written for the film version of the musical comedy "Whoopee" in 1930, it became a signature piece for Eddie Cantor. A stylized version by American singer and songwriter Nina Simone was recorded in 1957. This is the "Jump Blues" that Mill City Six strives to obtain. You just have to listen to it. Man it keeps you moving!
Jazz in Marciac, August 1, 2010. The Wynton Marsalis Quintet performing "Joe Avery's Blues - Second Line", featuring Mark O'Connor (violin) and Frank Vignola (guitar). Special guest: Jonathan Batiste (piano). Wynton Marsalis (trumpet); Dan Nimmer (piano); Walter Blanding (sax); Carlos Henriquez (bass); Ali Jackson (drums).
This is one of Daniel's favorite arrangements and performances; it was first introduced to him as the "Magnificent Edison Alumni Band" took a trip to Mardi-Gras, and played the same arrangement, also called "Second Line". He later found this same arrangement of "Second Line (Joe Avery's Blues)" has a great tradition in the Mardi Gras funeral processions as people would always enter the "Above Ground" gravesites with solitude, and leave the gravesites, listening to the "Second Line" as they are the "second line" from the standpoint of the band. This arrangement is performed by the "Wynton Marsalis Quintet".

Louis Prima, Phil Harris, Bruce Reitherman, I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)
This has to be, according to Daniel, one of the neatest stories of all musicians -- How Louis Prima got roped in to do "Walt Disney's Jungle Book" -- Check it out!

Also, this has got to be one of the most fun recordings in the swing era.

In Benny Goodman and His Sextet's 1940 recording of "I've Found a New Baby," Count Basie arranged the music and played piano, along with guest drummer Jo Jones.

James Morrison - You are My Sunshine
James Morrison has so much fun on this arrangement. It brings back memories from when the "Dance Connection" was around, right David Perry? This song, I think, can be made to adapt to any style. It certainly sounds good in Jazz, and we are going to play it at our next "Gig" (a musician's term -- only)! If we don't play it, please request it...
